CRI Adds Two Categories, Platinum Level to Seal of Approval Program
"CRI Adds Two Categories, Platinum Level to Seal of Approval Program"
Cleanfax (02/10)
The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) expanded its Seal of Approval (SOA) testing and certification program to include products marketed for the removal of pet stains and odors. The SOA Solutions program uses water as a benchmark, and with regard to odor tests, products are ranked on a scale of one, meaning "intolerable" odor, to 10, meaning odorless. Gary Asbury of Professional Testing Laboratories, which created and will operate the testing program, says products that pass the test score at least "three levels better than plain water." As for stain tests, products must perform the same as or better than plain water and cannot cause carpet discoloration or accelerated re-soiling. CRI also added a Platinum Level category to its Extractors and Deep-Cleaning Systems programs, recognizing equipment or equipment/carpet solution combinations that eliminate at least 90 percent of soils.
